Los Angeles duo Eli Hirsch and Micah Gordon encapsulate one of life’s fleeting moments when “something feels so unreal, and you realize, like everything, it will pass.” This devastating yet beautiful dichotomy is translated into courtship.’s third release ‘Sail Away’, which could easily be called a summer anthem, due to its overriding upbeatness and generous use of surfy guitars and dance-worthy synths. It’s undoubtedly a celebration of the present, but not without an introspective edge as found in the symbolic title, nostalgic elements of 80s pop and questioning lyrics, “what am I doing here?” Released via Hillydilly’s label 20XX, ‘Sail Away’ follows debut ‘Stop For Nothing’ and ‘Love For Everyone’ and is the dreamiest version of courtship.’s sun-soaked indie-pop we’ve heard yet. The sonic evolution is subtle, but we’re certainly on the way to hearing new sides to this West Coast pair already. - HT
